Does anyone put 5w-30 oil in their 2001 Accord instead of the recommended 5w-20? If you use 5w-30 oil, which brand?

I have a 01 EX Sedan, 4 cyl, manual trans. Almost 89K miles on it, currently drive about 1600 miles a month.

I put 10-30 in my car but I live in a warm climate. Never gets below 40 degrees here. Started at 60K.

I live in Northern CA, doesn't too cold here. On rare occaisons it will get close to freezing.

I am planning on moving back home to Washington in the next 1-2 years, and it definitely gets below freezing during the winter. I remember running 10w-30 in my old 80 Accord without too many problems.

What brand of oil do you use?

Cheapest major brand. Brand name is not as important as mileage between changes. Oil goes on sale at Kragens and when it does I buy a case.

I put 10w-30 in once, and whenever I mashed the peddle smoke would come out of the exhaust.
