transmissionjohnson110 01-21-2005, 09:47 PM OK i have this transmission rebuilt with 30k on it, i put lucas treatment in it and it starts to shift strange! i take it and have the fluid and filter changed it seems to be ok till it warms up it seems the converter is locking in and out erracticly, when driving at 50 or 60 mph the tach is jumping up and down like the conver is locking in and out! wandering if i could pump the fluid out of the dip stick with a drill pump and fill it again. could the fluid be bad in the converter? did the lucas stuff screw up the converter? JDPascal 01-23-2005, 12:34 AM you never said why you thought you needed the additive in the first place so I am assuming that you were trying to make a good thing better. A couple of things could be happening. The additive could have loosened some deposits that are affecting control valve operation or it could have changed the friction qualities in the clutches. There may be some other things too that others will come up with. If you pump the fluid out of the dipstick tube, you will only remove about 3 quarts and the transmission holds 10 or more. (not sure on exact but you can check the owners manual) I would drop the transmission pan to drain the oil. you will change about 5 qts that way. Drive it with the new oil for a few days or a week and change it again. If you do this a total of 3 times with 5 qts each time you will have removed about 95% of the additive. You can also do it all at once after the first change. Once you have re-installed the pan and replaced the drained oil, remove cooler return line and fill one or two quart containers by running the engine with the transmission in neutral. Replace the oil thru the dipstick tube as you remove it at the cooler line untill you have replaced the capacity of the transmission. Then all you can do is hope that it improves the problem you have described. JD johnson110 01-24-2005, 06:59 AM thanks for reply the mechanic said he ran the transmission flushed out he also changed the filter, guess i will have to let him change fluif again, would like to drop pan myself, do you know where and what type of gasket goes on that transmission, could i reuse the pan gasket again? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
