ok i have a 1992 prelude and i have spent tons of cash on it, thing is where i live there are way to many bumps on the road, therefore the car is a bit jumpy. It has Koni Suspension and Lowering springs with 17" rims 215/40/17 tyres.

problem is the car simply bounces of all the bumps it gives a really bouncy ride, i want the car to run smoothly. Any ideas?

might the upper and lower control arms be a bit old?
car has 89000km on it, it is in very good condition.

any help is much appreciated. should i go for stock suspension perhaps and stock springs? or what part can i change that will make the car go much smoother, i have noticed that the car has a tendancy to go to one side when on these bumpy roads, wont happen on smooth roads, but ive been told that its because of the big tyres and because its lowered.

also my front left cv boot has gone twice in like 2 months, might there be a problem down there that is causing the car to bounce this much, perhaps the motor mounts?

If your suspension is tight and you have low profile tires, then the ride is going to be bumpy because there is nothing in your suspension to absorb the bumps and your tires won't absorb any of the roughness either.

Well one it's your tire size. 40 series tire has no cushiony ride.

Plus which Konis do you have? Red? Yellow?

The only real way to get a smooth ride is to go back to stock.

Here i found this post and it has some relevance to this...It would make matters worse. In most cases the motor mounts and/or suspension bushings are shot. My car is almost 5 years old and I got some really bad wheel hop because my driver's side motor mount (which is hydraulic) was gone AND my bushings were bad. Once I replaced those the hop wasn't as bad.

On my car I could replace 5, but I only did the lower driver's side & passenger side AND the rear one.

Basically he was fixing a wheel hop problem, but this is similar.

thats not similar at all. the question in htis thread as I understand it is how to make his ride more comfortable (bumps don't hit so hard) The wheel hop issue was because when whoever started that thread accelerated his tires would grip--> let loose--> grip--> let loose... also known as wheel hop.


motor mounts will not help with the problem in this thread.

Ok well the starter of the thread asked about motor mounts and that post caught my eye. If it affects wheel hop...why couldn't it affect this?
I took the initial question differently than you did. I was thinking that his car rides like crap and bounces around a lot, i didn't think he was asking how to make the ride more comfortable.

thanks for the replys, if i put back the stock suspension and not lower the car as much will the car improve drastically? and can i put 215/50 tyres on it on stock suspension?

If you put the stock suspension back on it will not be low anymore. What do you mean by "not much"?

What are the stock size of the tires?

i was planning on putting back the stock suspension and putting a coil over lowering kit thats what i meant. so if i put stock suspension car should go real smooth?

If you put your stock suspension back in how are you going to put in coilovers then? Can't have both.

You didn't keep your old suspension?

no its not that, i bought the car from a local dealer, it is in excellant condition mechanically and interior only problem is too bumpy cos of suspension, although when i get out in the highway, the car just sticks to the ground like glue.

the car was bought with this suspension, so i told have the stock suspension.

i am planning on getting new rims also, car is quite low at the moment, can i put 18" rims on. i have the koni red suspension on with lowering springs, how can i put the car a little higher to cater for 18".

you need to research a little more on suspension because you obviously have no clue...

ok, stock suspension means, the car isn't low anymore and doesn't have the coilovers. depending on how long the car has been lowered, chances are the stock shocks (i'm assuming the previous owner didn't get aftermarket shocks) are blown becuase of the coilovers. your options now are raise the car back to stock height and buy new OEM shocks or buy some aftermarket shocks that are meant for lowered cars. although the aftermarket shocks aren't going to be AS smooth as stock, it definitely wont be as bumpy as it is now. IMO aftermarket shocks are your best bet because 17's and 18's look dumb cars that aren't lowered.
