I'm looking to try and change my automatic 4 1/2 speed Jeep into a manual 5 speed. I have an all wheel drive transfer case, I want to be able to shift from 4wd to 2wd and back and forth. Where can i locate the parts for this kind of conversion. Help...

it's a dodge engine and i know they make manual 5 speeds. anyone?

well there are 2 different transfer cases ou can choose between NP/NV231 or the NP/NV242

231 - 2HI, 4HI, N, 4LO
242 - 2HI, 4HI (Fulltime), 4HI (Parttime), N, 4LO
- FULLTIME - you can leave it in all year round and acts just like the 249 (which is whta you have)
- PARTTIME - locks the front and the rear axles together so they turn at the same speed - very uncomfortable on dry pavement - lots of binding and hopping.


Both of these models will bolt up to the exsisting tranny with lil mod - the only thing you will have to do is take the Front input shaft out of your 249 (quadratrac, alltime 4WD) transfer case and put it in the new transfer case (231 or 242). I am not sure about tha 5-speed tranny tho, I am sure it is not much different if any.
