I have a 96 jeep grand cherokee laredo. 6 cyl, with 89K. I have never used all time 4 wheel drive until this last week when we were in snow and ice. After driving in all time 4wd this weekend, I put it back in 2 wheel drive. Now when I turn sharp right or left at low speed there is a kind of "stuttering". It feels as if one tire is being dragged into the turn...like it isn't turning fast enough or at all. I don't see any leaks and did not have this problem before this weekend.
HELP!!!

I'm going thru the same thing right know with a 97 gc. My read on this is that the hubs are not fully disconnecting when you return to 2H. You probably noticed your gas mileage took a big dump due to the extra load of turning over the front axle! My 97 is new to me and I have not seen better than 14.5 mpg (4.0L) babying it & with no 4wd or quadtrac usage. If it's still doing it wait for a warmer day and while rolling go in & out of quadtrac & check it then. When 4wd systems are not activated frequently enough grease dosn't get "slung" to all the inner components of the front hubs/spindles. I have a Hayens service manual and trying to find time to see how involved it is to grease things up. Post back if you solve your problem before I do. P.S. this binding puts additional wear on the outter edge tread of your front tires.

Couple of things to try

1- make sure all tires are at same pressure
2- make sure all tires have same wear.
3- if all good try backing straight while engaging/disengaging xfer case a few times it should release.
