ok there must be a dozen posts a week like this but i think ive been here long enuff to entitle me to one :D

ok so theres this z31 auto turbo (not sure what year it is, assume its the first one ever produced) and this guy had it in the paper for AU$2600 (i live in australia)
we went to look at it and it drives ok and the inside is clean etc
there r a few things rong with it like i think the drivers seat is off the rails or something coz it wouldnt move
now i offered him $1600 as a kinda joke type thing
like i thought we'd bargain up
he told me 'nah ive got some guys coming today and theyll prolly take it'
i just grinned to myself coz it was so obvious he was lying
but anyway, a week later (today) he calls me back and sez 'ah u sed $1600? u still want it?'

so wot u guys reckon
im gonna make sure its turbo first coz there didnt seem to be any boost haha so first on the list is to check that it is turbo and that its working
its got 210k km (130k miles) on it, the body is pretty rough but most of it is polishable
inside is clean, stereo and all that is installed (btw is it hard to install an aftermarket stereo into the z31? itd make it look a lot better)

but it seems completely stock
usually z31s sell for at least $4k here in good condition
is it a good investment? i want to buy it, replace a few rusted things, polish the engine bay and body, clean it up, put on a new cannon etc and then sell it for $4k

ive read the other posts on 'buying a z31' but usually theres lots of noobs there asking stupid questions that u guys r forced to answer the same way every time or risk them coming back in a week and reviving their own dead post coz noone responded

so here goes
'what should i look for?'
and more importantly, 'is it a good investment?'
even if the turbo is dead i can get a 2nd hand one and bolt it on or something, or mayb just flush the existing one out so it 'kinda' works :D
the seat being fudged mite b harder to fix tho
if worst comes to worst i can always use it as a daily driver 8)

$1600 AUD for a z31 is a fucking bargain (assuming it isn't hot).
Even if it had no engine it would still be worth it. Make sure it isn't hot though. Check the vin number, the rego, and make sure that it matches up to the guy who's selling it to you as well. I almost bought my z31 from a bloke up near parklea markets (sydney) but it had horrible power, the vin/rego check said it wasn't stolen however it didn't match up to his name. He didn't want to meet him at his house, but in the street somewhere etc. etc. Just seemed dodgy. Make sure its all within the law, for a price like that.

Don't put a cannon on it please. Cannons are for cheap granny cars designed for getting groceries. Cannons are for your honda civics, your hyundai excels etc. Ricers don't want Z31s. Maybe Z32s, but z31s are too 'old' for ricers.

i dont mean like a 5" fart can haha
its just the exhaust tip atm is rusted to hell
and theres lots of ok 2/3" cans at regular retail places like sprint auto parts for under $100
itd look a hell of a lot better than the current rusted one, and it should sound beefier too (but not too beefy coz im not replacing the exhaust)

sounds like a good deal, take it to a mechanic and make sure it is a turbo and it is boosting. also make sure the trans. moves through all gears fine. check all fluids...see if he has had any recent work done to the car.

um...look on ebay for a nice muffler. i got me a nice performance muffler for real cheap off ebay and it isnt ricey...just a nice dual tip.
