Identifying B16A Questions?Red B16A 01-15-2005, 10:49 PM I Bought this 95 Civic Hatchback and it has a B16A but need to Know What it came out of? It say's B16A, but has a HM with circle stamped around it next to the B16A. It's a 5millions series but havn't looked at whats after it, but the head has 91 stamped in it on the left side and to the right it says PR3 ( I dont know what PR3 means). Also it has a Y21 Tranny. NEED HELP! JDMsweetz 01-16-2005, 03:10 AM 5million series = Second Gen CivicSpoon 01-16-2005, 01:21 PM You should look at what # is after it if you want to be sure. It's probably a 1st gen since it's a '91. The 2nd gen was from '92-'95. Red B16A 01-16-2005, 02:29 PM The first three numbers are 540 :iceslolan , but then way is the head a 91, deosn't that defeat the porpose of the second generation B16A with 170 horses or not? And what does PR3 mean, I see it alot on Ebay for chips and stuff? CivicSpoon 01-16-2005, 08:41 PM Oh you know what, it probably is a 2nd gen. Like how they made some of the '92-'95 Civics in late '91, but they are still 5th gen civics. PR3 is a bunch of stuff. It's the identification code on the ECU and for the pistons. It's probably some more stuff too that I can't think of (or things I jsut don't know). JDMer_00 01-17-2005, 01:15 AM the b16a came out of the DA integras, they are dohc vtec 145hp and the vtec kicked in at 4500rpm, not a very reliable motor. crxlvr 01-17-2005, 12:38 PM actually a b16a is found in the JDM/EDM civic/crx SI-R's and made 160hp and 112lb/ft. it is a very reliable motor, with endless posibilites for modding and build-ups. it was also one of the first motors to make 100hp per liter of displacement. its definatly a first gen motor, the 1million series was the newer versions, the 5millions were older. from what you describe it was manuafactured in 91. honda4u 01-17-2005, 04:42 PM i have a b16a in my crx and it came out of a crx si-r and it has 160hp and it is an awsome motor. JDMer_00 01-17-2005, 08:31 PM those are b16ag1's i know i have a friend who just bought a DA integra from an old lady, and it has the b16a. Red B16A 01-18-2005, 09:02 PM What about the B16A Spotting post on the forun it say's that if it is a 5 million series with the starting numbers of 54 it is a 2nd generation B16A for a 92 and above and it could make sense because if it was built in late 91 it could of been for 92 car. The resone for all this is so I can find a repair manual for my motor and a few people told me that you canuse a manual for a B16A3 del sol with DOHC. CivicSpoon 01-18-2005, 09:22 PM The b16a identification thing should probably be tweaked a little to include the late '91's as the '92-'95 b16a's But yes you can use the del sol manual, it's basically the same exact engine. It just has slightly higher compression, and maybe a few minor changes, nothing that you would have to worry about. But the del sol manual will be perfect for anything dealing with the motor. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
