97 caravan shift problemrorycasey 01-14-2005, 09:11 PM Hi, I'm having a shift problem with my 97 caravan 3.8L. Sometimes it will not shift into gear,I have to shut it off and restart it to get it to shift. This dose not happen all the time, more so when the temps are low.20 degrees or below.now it may kick out of gear after a complete stop, and the engine needs to be shut off and restarted to get gears again. my first thought was the TCM, I had a 95 intrepid that would not shift up from first, and that was the problem, but I don't want to pop $211.00 on a TCM and have it be something else. Any ideas or input would be appreciated. skm 01-28-2005, 10:44 AM I am having a similar problem with my 1996 Caravan. It will shift into high gear in cold weather. A code 45 is one of two things. 1 EAXT controller DTC present- an automatic transmission input DTC has been set in the transmission controler, or 2 Park/neutral switch failure--incorrect input state detected for the Park/neutral switch. (DTC) Diagnostic Trouble Code. hope this helps vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
