it is 10 degrees farenheit out right now and i went to start my z to warm it up. i turned the key over the first time and it made a grinding noise and the engine didn't turn over. i took the key out and sat there for a second and tried it again and it started just fine like always. was that grinding noise my starter going out?

its definitely the starter. it is probably on its way out...mine does the same thing, but thats becauses i have to crank on my starter for about 10 minutes everytime i want to start it in the winter.

well, it has only been doing every once in a while, like when it sits for more than 7 hours in below 10 degree weather. by the way, how hard is it to replace one?
