Yeah, you might be wondering whether it will be called r35 too. I offer some exceptions to that rule, and in this thread they are all outlined. I will update it later on with some more info that I may "stumble upon."

Yeah... it just may be a whole new Family code... and why not? GC10 evolved to R34! S30 evloved to Z33... and so on. I feel Nissan wants to do something big here and this merits a new beginning. Shit it's even rumored that this GTR is going to be known as the "Infiniti GTR" worldwide even in Japan. The Skyline and GTR ties are being broken...

5. The new GTR will be based on a new redesigned VQ32DETT, so obviously it needs to tie in with with V-engine code.

The chassis designation, or at least the main letter most people use, doesn't have anything to do with what engine the car has.

You can see the pattern in the Z-cars. The Z31 and Z32 used the VG-series V6. The Z33 had a VQ. No change in designation.
The Maxima was the same way, with the A30 and early A31s using SOHC VGs, and later A31s using the DOHC VE. The A32-34 have used the VQ.
The Sentra probably had the broadest range of all, with the B13s using the CA(I think) and SR, the B14 using the GA and SR, and the B15 using the GA, SR, QG, and QR. None of them had a designation change when a different engine was used.

The R-designated Skylines were around before the RB-series was even introduced, and some used CA and FJ-series engines.

The Skyline and GT-R names are supposed to be separated. If you're going to have two models instead of just one, you need a new chassis designation. That's probably where the 'V' for the Skyline came from. Nissan is probably keeping the 'R' for the GT-R.

The V36 Skyline will be out by the time the GT-R is launched. We can probably expect the GT-R to be designated 'R36,' for the sake of continuity and to avoid confusion.

Vquick, is it possible that nissan avoid these names-r36, v35gtr? Thus Instead they go for some new model, which 'evolved' into something greater. I keep fearing that they will use these names, which personally I would prefer it not happen. I want them to reveal a new model, chassis and name in the last minute to catch everyone by surprise.

They may or they may not. You can look to the current Skyline as an example. Sure, there was a new letter designation, but Nissan made sure people knew it was a successor to the R34 by using '35.' Btw, the '35' probably isn't from the VQ35 engine because the Skyline has the VQ25 and VQ30 as well.

Nissan may decide that with a such a radical change, they want to keep the 'R' designation for the sake of consumer familiarity.

There almost definitely won't be a V35 GT-R. Since the GT-R is a separate model now, it would have its own designation, not the 'V.' Think of it like the old Toyota Celica Supra. Back in the day, the Supra was just a special Celica model. Eventually, the names separated, leading to two completely different models. They even had different chassis designations(Celica ST165-204, Supra MA70, JZA80).

So are you positively sure there wont be such a thing as 'v35 gtr' but there is a possibility of it being 'r35 gtr'?
I am not sure of it at this point in time. I do hope they make a change of names, but then again I recall the 300ZX to 350Z, such as they might modifiy the name to something else, but not change it entirely.

I'm fairly certain this GT-R wouldn't be called 'V35.'

First of all, the V35 is already taken by the current Skyline. There will be a new one, the V36, by the time the GT-R is launched. So maybe it could be V36 GT-R. But I doubt that, because...

Secondly, the Skyline and GT-R names were supposed to be separated. That means separate designations for the two models. I wouldn't be surprised if they kept the 'R' for the GT-R, but if they don't, then it will probably be something other than 'V.'

What French bit? Nissan CEO, Carlos Ghosn, is Lebanese. :screwy: If Ghosn didn't have Renault bail Nissan out of their $22 billion debt, where do you think the company would be now?

Renault has very little influence on Nissan these days. Nissan is actually doing better than Renault right now.

If anything, Renault is the one being influenced, considering they used Nissan's VQ35 engine in their Vel Satis and the FM platform for the Florence concept.

what happen to the le-man cars!?
If you aren't participating in LeMans, why build a car for it?
