Can anyone tell me how to set the carb on my truck.I just replaced it with another from the same year truck. It has one idle mixture screw on the carburetor. The truck won't idle well and hesitates when accelerating. What is the factory setting for this screw. The mixture screw was enclosed, but someone popped the cover off it to access it, and I have been playing with it. Is this screw for more fuel or more air? It will sometimes turn over hard when hot and there is alot of black residue on the inside of the air breather assembly. The choke is fully open when hot. How do I check the timing and what is the setting. Is there anything to disconnect when checking with timing light? (3.7 litre , slant 6)
Any help would be appreciated.

ok if you dont have any vacuum leaks heres how ya do it .with the truck running screw the mixture screw in slowly until the truck almost dies then back it out 1/2 turn at a time paying close attention to the idle because as you back out the screw the idle will go up and up when youve reached a point where the idle doesnt go up anymore turn it back in a 1/2 a turn rev a lil then do it over again that should be perfect.the screw is the air fuel mixture ratio.if somebody hasnt ripped it off your specs for timing and procedures are on the underhood sticker

Thanks for replying, I'll try that. With the truck being so old , I'm wondering if that sticker is still readable or even there. Thanks for the info.
