What to do with a vin tag and titlederrickjed 01-11-2005, 12:41 PM I had to strip a doner car to help restore my charger. one of the things Im keeping is the dash cage and I plan to remove the vin tag thats on it. The tag is for a 1969 dodge charger 440 magnum. I have a clean title for it as well, But not sure if I can sell it or not. I guess if theres interested or you can let me know what I should do contact me. Imderrickjed@yahoo.com Thanks Derrick Bloomington, IL BleedDodge 01-11-2005, 02:08 PM That's so illegal. derrickjed 01-11-2005, 02:22 PM hey dodge guy thanks for the info. I didnt know what I should do with it. I guess Ill cut the tag and shread the title. I didnt know if the vin and title could be used to save a car from the scrap heap or what so I figured Id make a post and ask. Wasnt trying to break any rules or laws, also didnt want to destroy something that could be of use to somebody. Thanks BleedDodge 01-11-2005, 05:15 PM So I guess you took the dash from the donor car and put it in your project car? Or you're trying to sell the donor car with the title and tags from your project car? I think what I would do is take the old dash and put it in the donor car, and then put the donor car's tag on that one, and then sell it with the title. That way it wouldn't be fraud. Lots of guys these days are taking tags from other cars, and making numbers matching cars out of them. You can take like a 318 car and take the big block out of a donor, as well as its tags and make a numbers matching big block car out of the 318 one. That's bad, I hope that's not what you're doing... derrickjed 01-11-2005, 05:22 PM Nope, My car is a true 440 rt dodge charger. The other vin is a 440 magnum, Im not sure what one is better. Guess I could just sell the old dash cage and that vin tag incase somebody can use it. Thanks 72_GTX 02-10-2005, 02:15 AM Nope, My car is a true 440 rt dodge charger. Thanks In Missouri if you're giving a car over to salvage - essentially what you've done - you write "scrapped" on the title and send it (or take it in) to the State. That way you're not on the books as owning the car for tax or insurance purposes. Also, you can be held liable for any wrecks in the car if you don't let the State know you've "sold" or "scrapped" it. If someone takes that dash/VIN, puts it in a car and starts driving it w/out registering it - even if it's years later - then you're on the hook for it. Or sure, you can probably get out of it with witnesses and such, but why deal with the possible financial hassles later for a 37 cent stamp and 2 minutes of your time now ...? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
