Both of the coils work untill 4000 rpm, then one shuts off. Try one and if the tacho drops to 0 after it goes past 4000, then change coils :)

Hi Fraz,
you say that both coils work till 4000rpm, then one shuts off, is this on all twil coil models? I have a 89 Attesa Bluebird, and at 2800rpm the engine cuts out like a rev limiter. I thought maby the engine had a crook coil (the one that goes past 4000rpm). So each time the engine speed reaches this it cuts out......what do you think ?
Also what is the purpose of twin coils ?

Cheers

The 2 coil system is only found on the sohc ca18 and ca20. The sparkplugs on the exhaust side run off the second coil. It is for better emissions.

Is your attessa ca18de or sr20? If its a ca18 then one or more of the coil packs is probably shot. They are under the plastic cover in themiddle of the motor.
