Engine cuts out at 2800 rpm

Hi all, im new to this forum.
I have a Bluebird Atessa 4wd, with a 2lt twin spark engine. The car is a Japanese model that has been imported into New Zealand.
When the engine revs up, at approx 2800 rpm it cuts out. It sounds like an engine rev limiter. When the engine speed drops the engine starts firing again. It idles fine and pulls well till it reaches 2800 rpm, then just cuts out.

If anyone has had this problem, or knows what it could be please advise.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Does these cars have an engine rev limiter ? or an engine imobiliser ?
Maby this could be causing the problems.

Any ideas ?

Sounds to me like the airmass meter, due to the symptom you are describing, the engune ECU is not recieving the correct airmass at 2800rpm and therefore will not compensate with fuel delivery hope this helps
