It doesnt sound like a ball joint so I jacked the car up and felt the axel on the driver side and there was some play back and forth but not up and down. the noise sounds like a rattling when i driving down the road not just when turning and it was sudden not like a ball joint.

Have someone wiggle the wheel (when it's jacked up) while you watch where the movement is. It's probably a balljoint, bearing, or something like that.
