I recently bought a new cooling fan and I'm trying to troubleshoot to get it running. Thing is, I'm not sure what this one object is. It's located in the main fuse box in the engine compartment. It's labled COOLING FAN. I know there is also a COOLING FAN 40A fuse spot, but am just not sure what the object located in COOLING FAN (Black squarelike plug object which has a coil inside of it) is. If someone would please tell me what this is it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I don't have a wiring diagram handy but it sounds like the Cooling Fan Relay.

Thanks for posting.... Here's some more info. On the object, it says "H270" DC 12V 20A. Any more ideas?

It is the cooling fan relay. Pull it out and make sure the 4 wires going to it are getting a good connection-there is a problem with them getting a bad connection and overheating. If you see melted plastic when you pull it out, you've found your problem.

When you put the new relay in, you'll probably want to put new ends on the wires, otherwise you'll have the same problem. Just take your time and make a note of where they go, it can be quite a headache. Glad I could help!

Well, that shouldn't be a problem... But, thing is, I don't know how much a cooling fan relay costs. Any idea?

Advance Auto Parts can order you one for around 12 bucks, or you can get one from Ford for about 30.

Got one from a junkyard for 5 bucks. I then cleaned the connections and replaced it, and then presto... FAN WORKS! Thanks for the help and info!
