I was thumbing through one of my recent PHR mags, and I saw this stunning 56 corvette. (i've attached a pic) and I then remembered the corvette value pack hiding under my bed from many birthdays ago. It contained a 57 which I figured would be a prime candidate for this build. Also in this kit were 4 other vettes, one of which was powered by an LT1. the 1:1 car is powered by an LS1. I would rather do the LS1 but funds are kind of tight right now to go out and kitbash the Revell SS kit. Here are some pics of where i am at. I've spent about 10 hours working on the body, molding in the headlights, and rear valance, I've had to hunt down another kit for the front valance and the hood. on to the pics. (oh, if anyone else has seen this car on any sites on the net, please post up a link, im looking for more pictures. I emailed PHR but have yet to receive a reply.)

again, i apologize for the blurry pics, they were taken inside, as it is rainy and nasty outside. the blue in the headlight in that last pic is from the liquid mask.

thanks for looking, comments, suggestions and criticisms are welcome as always

Are you using the attached pic as inspiration, or are you going to build it as close to the original car as possible? Anyway it looks good so far!

white97ex
01-05-2005, 08:03 PM
well. as of right now that is the only pic that i have, so its merely inspiration. and the 1:1 uses the LS1 where as i have the LT1 . i want the exterior to look as close as possible. i'll have to pick up some pegasus T's for this one. The small write up in the mag on this one said it had over 100 body mods, but i have no clue what all they were. As for the front valance, it shouldn't be too hard. as long as it fits ok. I had to pick up a AMT 57 corvette gasser kit because im missing the hood and the lower front valce peice. that should be here sometime next week.

well the donor kit arrived today. the front valance was workable but the hood was too small so the donor has become the primary. so now i get to do all the body work all over again?

well.......umm.....WOW.... i had no idea. thanks a ton for the pictures. it helps knowing who built the car lol. i'm thinking that is a lot more work than i want to put into this one. seeing as how im already upset that the 5 plus hours i've put into massaging the old body have been wasted. i'm merely gonna use that for inspiration. as far as stance, and the wheel combo......WOW.....still speechless. that car is immaculate. again thanks so much for the pictures.

wow...didn't see that coming. lol. I havn't trashed the old body. I'll hang on to it. It is bad enough i have to fill the hold in the center of the hood where the scoop goes, for the race version of the kit. I've started working on the new body. I dont have any pictures as of yet. I got side tracked on a 71 charger r/t that i am doing box stock. I need a few stock peices on teh shelf. lol. I have decided to put a bit of work into this one. I can't guarantee an exact replica. The seats wont be the same, i want the body to flow into the interior like the 1:1 car. and the motor wont be an LS1 even though i love the look of that intake. lol. I've gotten a bit done to the motor. I'll try and get some pics up tomorrow. thanks for the words of encouragement guys

Looks nice so far. Solder?

The main reason I took up modeling is because I wasn't allowed to have a "real one." I found this '73 Camaro though, that needs a LOT of TLC, and with that I don't know if I'll have the time, money, or desire to model.

i've tried to model it as close to the frame i have reference for on a previous pate, as possible.

white97ex

got started on the motor today. had to shorten the driveshaft tube. it is all aluminized. I've decided not to use torque thrust type wheels. I'm going to use the Z06's. i think they look awesome.

i made a good deal of head way today. i got the rear axles done. got the motor mounts in place, and the rear end located. everything is working out pretty good so far...we will see when i go to put the interior tub in. lol. i got a couple pics one of the rear stance, and one is a rear shot of the transaxle let me know what oyu think.

i have sort of strayed from the original chassis design. the back "pod" comes up too high. but it will stay as it is. i will just add in different upper a-arm mounts. i still need to work in the lower a-arm mounts and the rear portion to house the fuel cell. then to tackle the front suspension. clean up the "welds" on the chassis, prime and paint, and it is done then on to the interior!!

white97ex
04-23-2005, 10:51 PM
well, i got a good bit of work done on the chassis, its time to start working on the suspension peices, a-arms, shocks and such. i got to looking at the pictures and there are lots of details i missed that should have been done before painting the body. the fender wells should have been constructed and molded in, as well as the middle console. I am working on the interior right now. debating on whether to strip the body and finish the body mods, or to construct them and leave the seams.....what do you guys think?

Wanted to bump this one up to the top. Some things have changed. The seats are modified late model vette seats. I'm completely scratching the interior tub. I'm also adding some aerodynamics to the bottom of the car a-la carbon fiber. Sorry for the poor photos, my batteries were dying.

since I changed directions with the dash, I'm going to have to repaint the car. I'm not too upset about this, as the hood needs attention, and it wasn't very shiny.
