Today I was driving down the street bumping, and li8ke all of a sudden I started to smell burnt, and I looked back, and one of my subs was smoking. Like not just a little either. How bad did I fuck it, and is there anything I can do to save it? And what did I do.

You went past the thermal poewr handling either by too much power or u clipped the fuck out of your amp.....but your subs are screwed.....even if they do still work it won't take much to blow them since the coils are already burnt.

what exactly do you mean by "clipping"?

the little volume thing on your amp is not a volume thing.....it is to match the input voltage of the head unit if you turn it up to high it creates a badly distorted signal which if you give clipping over the rms your sub...unless a very good one...will likely blow.

my subs are alpine 1421-R types. 4 omh impendancy... they shouldnt have blown from being such a good quality.
