waterpump fastener sealant (white)

Hey all, for the waterpump fasteners the manual says to use a teflon based sealant. The GM p/n is 1052080. This is the white goop on the bolts.

What about just using some white teflon plumbing tape instead? Has anyone tried that? How about teplon paste?

The recommended torque is listed at 30 ft. lbs.

I just don't want the pump to vibrate loose and start leaking.

If anyone has experimented with this, I would like to hear from you. Thx.

Use the proper stuff for the job and NEVER substitute or experiment.

Yup. You got that right.

Just FYI for anyone who is looking for GM teflon pipe sealant, p/n 1052080 (which is still circulating on the net) has been replaced by p/n 12346004. This is the GM white goop used to seal the bolts that go through the water jacket. It is very nicely priced at $18.96 a tube. :2cents:

I just got off the phone with Permatex. Their thread sealant for this application is p/n 59214 (6mL tube) and p/n 59235 (50 mL tube). It is available at most auto parts stores.

Anyone experience problems using this stuff?

As long as you use a teflon based thread sealant you will be OK
