My cavy is making a weird nose kind of like the one that a remote controll car would. I cant figure out were it is coming from but it seems to be close to were the alternator is, maybe its the pulleys? Also I just changed the oil, oil filter and the plugs. Could that be it? Im positive the plugs are installed correctly because the car runs smooth. I did use 10w-30 oil and used to have Bosch plat. plugs that i replaced w/ aurolite double plat. Please, any help would be apreciated. Thankyou so much.

Hey take it to autozone if you think it is the alt. to check the serpentine belt manually look at it for tears or cracks in the belt or if it is of the pully. Also make sure it is tight on the tensioner. Does it make a sound with the AC on? Not the plugs or you would know it when they fired.

what year/motor? it is possible to be the tensioner pully that make a bad squealing sound almost like a bad bearing when it goes.

if it sound like an electric motor it is! It's the alternator, it basically a reverse motor and any motor will work as an alternator. But not a generator as it will be DC due to the Commutator. Just give it a spray behind the pulley with WD40 but makes sure you don't get the belt or pulley!!! Most Fiats (italian cars) using Magnetti Marrelli alternator make this sound from almost new! This will be a temp fix though.

I have a 2000 2.2L How can i fix the squealing if it is the pulley? Do I have to replace it? Im not sure if it really is the alternator either so, how much would it cost to replace that too? Thanks alot for the help.

I would say an alternaotr for about $150 but I'm in Canada so there could be something lost in translation. As long as you can pull the tensioner back (not to be done with a crow bar or similar) then cahngine the alternator is very little more than the two bracket bolts and the nut for the (+)ve wire.
