That's one insane project! I always wanted to see something like this... with complete details and such. What did you use for the base of the engine?

mrceej
01-03-2005, 01:07 PM
It's all styrene sheets. It's tough to get all the detail accurate. I think in the end, I'm gonna build another one of these and try not to rush. I already rebuilt the header 3 times and the intake adapter/throttle boddy assembly 2 times and I'm not satisfied. I might try to file down the velocity stacks as they are a bit too big for my tastes. Most reference pics have them at about half the length.

mrceej
01-03-2005, 05:34 PM
there is actually more to it than this, it's just that i don't have a computer at home or a digital camera. the intake adapter/ITBs are done, but i'm still contemplating on rebuilding them. same goes for the exhaust manifold. transmission is like 70% complete. it was simple enough, but i'll try putting all of the ridges and what not. all that is needed (aside form the tiny details) is the rest of the timing belt cover, pulleys, and oil pan. i'll be working on this tonight. i tried to keep this on the hush hush, but man, i really couldn't wait to share this with everyone.

Good morning everyone (or afternoon/evening depending on where you are at). I decided to redo the intake manifold/ITB/Velocity stack assembly...again! I really want this one to be good. I actually brought my gear with me to work so I can spend some time on it here. Oil pan is somewhat fabricated now as well as somewhat of a timing belt cover. Again, I have to wait for my girl to email me the pics later. I'll post some more when I get the chance.

a picture of the 20 Valve that i could've bought for $300.00 US dollars, but i passed this one on to my buddy who wanted it more than i did. but hey, my stock 4AGE 16 valve runs fine, i even beat a VR6 GTI on freeway yesterday!

Model looks awesome and it is an interesting project, but racing on the freeway is stupid, regardless of what time or how empty it was. Just my 0.02..

mrceej
01-04-2005, 10:54 AM
i'm not gonna argue that one. typically i don't give in to the moment anymore. but this particular guy thought he was big because i didn't want to race on a side street in my commuter car about 5 months ago (one of my civic hatchbacks rated at a whopping 70 HP, that is the slowest of all that is slow). i told him bring his car out to the tracks (local legal runs) and i'd bring my other dedicated drag hatch out. it was just coincidence that i happened to be driving the corolla when he pulled up next to me on the freeway and i just figured what the heck. but like i said, i ain't gonna argue that one. believe me, i've done much worse and i realize how stupid it is. makes me a stupid person for doing it and i admit it.

i'm going to try. it's going to be tough because it's soooooo tiny. i got a lot of good references and one major reference (my own car). i'm sure i won't be able to replicate everything, but i'll try to be as detailed as i can.

hey thanks for the compliments! the rims i have on my real corolla are Hoshino Impul D-01 (i think that's what they are called). ever since NFSU2 came out, people come up to me when they see my car and ask if they are the same work rims in the game. but before that, people didn't really notice them, only older people that grew up in the eighties recognized them. i guess the game made them cool again.

I've got to be one of the biggest corolla rwd fans out there. You are giving justice to a vehicle that deserves it the most. It's just such a shame that I can't fix my 86' SR5 by building an engine out of plastic for it. She died about a month ago when I was running it at a local legal auto cross event, was holding 5th place overall too. I was happy cuz overall, 5th place gets a ribbon and small trophy. I was soo proud of my lil car, and well, by some god forsaken miracle, i went to crank the car after letting it cool between passes and it cranked... and clanked and had eaten all of its oil. It still runs now, sitting on the side the house, it gets started and run every 5min eveyr other week. :sigh: oh the plans I had, it makes me want to cry.

i already tried the Sift Corolla a couple of times with a third in the works.

I'm done with two of the new kits minus paint jobs. I'm also trying to restore some of my old kits with techniques and tips I picked up on here. You'll see my DC2 Type R soon. I built this one back in 2000 and it's been sitting since. I wet sanded it and sprayed a new clear on it. I'm just waiting for it to be fully dry so I can polish it. No worries guys, I was actually wondering if anyone remembered about this model. I'll post a few updated pics as soon as I can. Almost ready for paint. Engine bay still needs work. It sucks that after all this time, Aoshima decided to release a corolla kit with engine detail. ImolaEK knows I have been fiddling around with molds and casting materials and this was something I was trying to produce as a "transkit" but I guess there's no need anymore. I even made a 16v engine jsut because.
