Intake Manifold

I have a 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis. My intake manifold is cracked. I have read that this has happened to numerous people. The thing is made of plastic (if you can believe that). Some people have gotten the dealer to replace it for free, and others haven't been so lucky. Has anyone been able to get the dealer to replace it? The normal cost runs anywhere between 800-1200 dollars. I did read that there was a service bulletin in February of 2002 on this item. Please help!

Check out :

It appears FORD would cover repair if car was taxi, fleet, or police use - but not for the average guy.

Lots of messages there also on this issue.

Godd luck.

Since your GM is 1997 and it is now 2005 (more than 7 years), your chances of warranty coverage are very slim.

It never hurts to do a little complaining to the dealer - especially if you are orginal owner.

True......wonder why ok for police/taxi and not the average owner? Seems police/taxis would have more abuse and ring up more miles.

How many miles on your MGM? That may be a factor in the dealer's willingness to work with you.

.

Decision maker for new of cars for police / taxi / fleet is usually a purchasing manager who will look at operating & repair cost as part of annual decision making process. At $1,000 extra per car, this is a huge black mark against subsequent purchases.

In early to mid 90's police purchases of Crown Victoria was a big part of production for their St. Thomas plant.

Ford was just taking care of business while neglecting us little guys.

Fortunately, for me, my 93 hasn't got plastic.

Ford is making good on the manifolds to ward off a class action suit. I got some info off the Blue Oval site, but payout details are incomplete as of this time.

Check out my support group on yahoo, do a group search under Cracked Mercs or email me for the link.
