Hey I was thinking of getting a engine swap. I wanted to get a b16 but i want a d16. I drive a 1990 honda crx dx. How much would it be for a d16 swap into my car? Parts, engine, Trannny, labor, coversions etc. Please post any help is usfull

why do you want the d16 instead of the b? i thought about switching from my d16 to a b-series but it's cheaper just to get another D, build up the internals, and turbo it later. Sure, not as much hp, but still a fun daily driver.
on risingsunengines.com a d16a6, here's the email i got from them:
Thanks for your inquiry. Yes, we have a used *tested* engine in stock for your application. Your cost is $595.00 with no exchange required, plus approximately $140.00 freight.
We also have clutches in stock for your application. A three piece clutch kit is only $120.00. Note that our clutches are new, not rebuilt.
It's a very good idea to replace the timing belt before you install the engine. If you have ever experienced a timing belt failure, then you know what we mean. We can also install a new timing belt in the engine before shipment if you like. Your cost is only $49. for both the belt and the labor.
If the motor is shipped outside CA, there is no sales tax.

labor, depends on where you take it to get it installed - risingsun has some used trannys starting at $100, you'd hafta get a quote from them - i think the dx tranny will still bolt up
mpfi swap - i think around $100? Really depends on where you get it, junkyard, private seller, etc.

He's saying put in a mid-engine lol.
Will a 5-speed Civic or CRX Si (88-91) bolt up into a 90 Hatch STD?

i guess they both kind of have there advantages. If you were going to go with a d16 get something like a d16a6 because they have a lot of aftermarket support and is a good motor for the money. The b16 you need to get more stuff just to make it work like the motor mount kit. But with the b16 youll get more power. B16 also has a boat load of aftermaket support.

search...
mounts, linkage, custom harness....basically everything!
But it's worth it. And, be prepared to spend alot of hours swapping parts over...and pulling parts from a 90-91 integra...

I have a D16 put on mine, and total cost was around 1000.00. Including the labor and conversion, the only bad thing is that I still have the stock computer, so no V-tec. The only mod is the exhaust and a AEM CAI. The car felt like it gained a lot of power, plus you also should remember that the B series motor is much heavier than a D series, so the weight distribution on the car will be off more drasticly than a D series, which you'll feel when making a turn and driving a high (over 100) speeds.
Another thing that made me go to a D series was cost, remember, you are going to pay around 300-500 just for the motor mounts on a B series.

D series are nice, light, cheap, smog easy, and is reliable. It just doesnt have enough power im getting a b16 in 4 months. Its gonna cost 3gs.

dude go B, you'll be a lot happier w/it, it has a lot more potential if your just going to daily drive it. check out an LS motor, they're a couple hundred cheaper than a B16, and more torque, I have an LS in my hatch and I beat up on B16 CRX's all day. B16 motor/tranny/ecu=1400 Mounts cable tranny=400 mounts hydro tranny=600 shift linkage=220 axles= 120 at pep boys w/a lifetime warranty labor=600-900

lol :) good idea - but why do ppl say that one engine is always better than the rest? It really depends on a lot of factors...so u can't put all LS or B16 in a group, they're all tuned different and have different internal/external modifications
bambam89lx
01-07-2005, 04:25 PM
true...stock for stock tho...the B16 will pull a better 1/4 time in the same vehicle
