Gravel shields in wheel housing (Peugeot WRC)

Hi folks!
Getting close to finish my Peugeot WRC car but there's one thing I can't figure out.
Take a look at this picture.

It seems to me that the inside of the wheel housing is yellowish. Considering this next picture it's fair to say that it's not the whole housing that is supposed to be yellow.

At first I thaught it was just dust from the rally but the edge separating the yellow from the body red is too sharp. Would you reckon this is some sort of protection shield? AND if that is the case...how far up the housing would it reach?

best regards
Joel

Hi Joel, Iīm pretty sure that the wheel housing is painted in the same color as the body, take a look at these pics and tell me what you think. As for the yellowish stuff in your first pic, I think itīs just the gravel coloring the housing. Donīt miss the link at the bottom, the best pic I think.

Yes, there's a protection shield in the Pug' 206 wheel housing. Its color seems to be quite similar to Tamiya's ... masking tape! (some modelers have used it to reproduce this protection):iceslolan

Edit: Dukeman: thanks for the pic! Such a uniform and cleanly delimited color can't be just dust! :grinno:

As far as I know, this protection is for the whole circumference of the wheel housing... The side being painted same color as the body.

Reproducing it will permit you to fill the gap between the chassis and the body of the kit, and make it look much more realistic!

Edit 2: sometimes, this protection seems to be black... That's what you'll realise if you just go there: http://rallycars.topcities.com/reference/peugeot-206/peugeot-206-suspension.html (Thanks to RallyRaider for his beautifull and usefull site!)

No excuse now for not making it look right!

Ok, thanks. I think I get it now. I've corrected the spaces between chassis and body already but I'll go for some desert yellow or similar in the housing arch.
best regards

Seems to definitely be a seperate piece, my guess is it's a piece of kevlar as this is very puncture resistant and would protect the steel panel on the chassis.

in the latest race-rally cars that piece is a piece off kevlar

This is one of those things that changes all the time, from event to event, team to team. All you can do is go by what you can see on the car and event in question. In general the 206 seemed to have some kevlar panels in the front wheel arches more often than not...

It does look like a kevlar insert against rocks and stuff, that's problaby why there isn't one on the '01/'02 tarmac-spec presentation car.
