a manufacutrer doesn't honor a recall...it sends them out...some are manadatory in whih the car has to go back to the factory or dealer to get fixed and some aren't...my guess it depends on the type of recall...i know that u don't have to be the original owner

i understand how a recall works....for the most part....the question im asking is......
how long is a dealer required to fix a recall.
if there was a recall in 94 and the orig owner didnt get it fixed...can i still bring it in after 10 years?

What I've read is the recalls are for safety defects only. As long as the car is on the road the defect will be fixed. This gets real cloudy sometimes at the dealer level though.

This from another web site: Latest recall I see for this is 90C22 (c) in Dec. of 1990. Very detailed bulletin and several pages. Number is valid. Bulletin states: "Dealers are to service all vehicles subject to this campaign at no charge to owners, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership, from this time forward." Plain and simple, it's a safety recall and they are to fix it. Covers most Camaros and Firebirds from 84 to 90 on this bulletin.

Very easy... go to your local Chevy dealer. They will have a listing of any and all recalls and, with the VIN number of your truck, can check and see which ones have or have not been done to your truck.

As an alternative, for your own satisfaction and to get all the Technical Service Bulletins (TSB's.... something you won't get from your dealer), you can subscribe to ALLData (www.alldata.com). They cater to both professional and DIY mechanics.... check out the website and you'll see.

For my stepmoms expedition there was a recall on the tires and in the recall they explained that they had until X date to bring the car in, of course this is for tires so it might be different for different things. The cool part about it is the tires had about 80k on them and needed to be replaced anyway. So she got a free set of tires.
