NEED HELP PLEASE!!!!! how to install a tachometer in a 87 crx si??real977 12-28-2004, 04:03 PM what color of the wire do i hook up the tach to? the wire that makes the pointer move? help please lxndr 12-28-2004, 04:47 PM According to my trusty Haynes manual, you will want to attach it to the blue wire coming off of the ignitor in the distributor. mormilesthanne1 01-02-2005, 06:30 PM i have a 87 civic and i put an aftermarket tach in. there were four wires coming off of the tach; black, red, green, and white. i put teh green through the hole in the firewall and sodered it onto the green on teh ignition coil. if you give me more information i can definatly help you out cvcc_wagon 01-02-2005, 07:08 PM the negative post on the coil lxndr 01-02-2005, 07:25 PM the negative post on the coil That will work too and was my first thought. On my old cars that's where I hook up a dwell meter/tachometer. Although my CRX manual says that the signal for the stock tach comes right off of the ignitor. I suppose if you were installing an aftermarket tach, it would probably be easier to hook it up to the coil. I wonder why anyone would need two tachometers in their car? cvcc_wagon 01-02-2005, 07:47 PM not every model came with a tach. it was and still is a marketing tool for Honda, the nicer model comes with a tach and the lower ones do not. my car didn't come with a tach but other 83 and earlier models (including the wagon) came with one. i shold also mention that my dads 2002 5 speed civic didn't come with one either lxndr 01-02-2005, 11:57 PM not every model came with a tach. it was and still is a marketing tool for Honda, the nicer model comes with a tach and the lower ones do not. my car didn't come with a tach but other 83 and earlier models (including the wagon) came with one. i shold also mention that my dads 2002 5 speed civic didn't come with one either Every 1G CRX came standard with a tach. The SIs had them simply because they were SIs, DXs had 'em, and HFs had a tach along with a shift light in order to tell the driver when to shift for efficient gas mileage. I'm not trying to put anyone down, I am honestly interested as to why someone would need 2 tachs. I can see that a race car needs to have a tach and shift light within easy eye sight in order for the driver to maintain consistent shifts... but a street car? real977 01-10-2005, 05:04 AM well, where is the ignition coil of the crx, because to tell you the truth, i dont where the ignition coil is cvcc_wagon 01-11-2005, 01:58 AM a cylinder that the wire in the center of your distributor goes to. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
