i was thinking about getting a jet powertech performance module for my car and it seems like a good idea, cuz its cheap and it says it adds 17-19 hp to mustangs, but when i told a few of my friends this they said chips are baad, they said that they fuck shit up with your motor, and one guy they knew after a month of having a chip his motor blew. i was wondering if chips are bad and can fuck stuff up, or if my friends dont know what their talkin bout?

if it is a tottally bogus chip i can see somthing bad hapening like if it programs in a lean a/f ratio or causes any detonation you screwed if your blown. i dont however see any reputable chip making company marketing a product that will blow your engine. what car is this goin on and what mods do you have so far? if it is a fairly stock car i would hold off on any computer adjustments untill you can really get the most out of it{or should i say use it to get the most out of your mods} but what is you budget? if u really want a chip/tunner i would go with a diablo our a predator tunner if you a newer 4.6, but buy you name im assuming youv got a 5.0. in this case i suggest looking into a twEECer. you can search both of these on google or this forum to find out more than i can provide on them but i know the twEECer plugs into the stock ecc{computer} and had i believe 5 settings on it. it is a reprogramable unit that you can download settings for off the internet or do them on your own. you can change air to fule ratio, ignition timming, rev limiter, and all sorts of other goodies. a tunner will cost you about 3-400$ but it is a great way for do it your self tunning.
ps: with a lot of tunners you need acces to a lap top so you can tune and load it into your whip the craig

yea i would rather get one of them tuners, but i dont really know too much about air to fuel ratios and all that stuff so i wouldnt know how to tune my car correctly, and my car is semi modded, 3.73 gears, underdrive pullies, electric fan, c/a intake, and exhaust.

Buddy of mine back home used a Jet chip on his 'Stang. Pinged, overheated a lot, died in traffic, a couple other things. We ripped it out, I think he still has it laying around unless he trashed it.

Hypertech was (don't know if it still is) one of the worst. They recommended you changing to a 160 T-stat (tricks the comp. into richening the mixture) then they ran a timing advance. That was about it. About the time your coolant sensor goes bad and the enrichment is gone, you smoke a piston.

I've heard good things about Diablosport chips.

Potato chips are good, I think. I have some in my mustang! :)

The SC I'm buying comes with a chip tuned for it. I wouldn't buy a standalone chip.
