4x4 QuestionRoadkillMR 12-22-2004, 01:52 AM I live in Wisconsin and as some of you might know, it just started snowing here. I tried to use my push button 4 wheel drive, and when I puch the button to switch from 2hi to 4hi, the 4 hi light just blinks(just like the others) never goes solid, which I asume is to tell me that it hasnt shifted. I own a 99 LS. What might be the problem. If it makes any difference, I also recently had all 4 ball joints replaced, as well as the front axel seals. Could they have done the damage while doing the work?? Mike BlazerLT 12-22-2004, 04:53 AM Do you hear any clicking? RoadkillMR 12-22-2004, 10:12 AM Clicking?? NO After I got your response I went out to listen and didnt hear a clicking sound, but I could here some type of motor start up, and the light would just keep flashing. The motor would also make a sound when I would just put it back in 2hi, but this time I actually sounded like somehting was shifting, then the motor would turn off. This is really starting to bother me Mikado14 12-22-2004, 10:49 AM I believe that the 99 still has the vacuum actuated front differential. They may have not hooked it up properly. The clicking or motor sound you hear is the encoder motor on the transfer case shifting. In replacing the front axle seals on the front differential, they may have disconnected something (actuator cable) and not adjusted it properly. BlazerLT 12-22-2004, 01:18 PM I believe it has an electric encoder motor which are prone to failure and sticking when they are not used for long periods of time. I would definitely have this checked out be a mechanic. This could lead to ruining your front end driveline if it isn't coming out into 2wd properly. RoadkillMR 12-22-2004, 01:40 PM Anyone know what it might cost to have the motor replaced?? BlazerLT 12-22-2004, 02:19 PM From a dealer of shop with a new part, 400 or so. Get the motor from a wrecking yard for a lot less and pay a shop the hour it takes to replace it. troubles789 12-22-2004, 02:20 PM Dealer part cost is $400+ change, Used $100-$150. Easy to put on. Dealer labor is about $150. Prob half that at a regular shop. gl vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
