I have been getting a really bad alternator whine. I have an amp running my eD components. I tried regrounding the amp in a different spot and it made absolutely no difference. So I started screwing around with the head unit ground. I tried grounding it in a few different places and I could get rid of it a little, finally I extended the head unit ground wire and grounded it on my seat mount bolt. That also didn't do anything. So next I tried grounding the RCA shields (I know it's not a good idea, but just temporarily) and it helped but I still have the noise. I sanded all the paint down to bare metal and did everything I could to fix it. I also unbolted the battery ground to chassis and sanded that down which also didn't make a difference. It seems as if my only option is to do the big 3 and hope for the best, I can't come up with any other Ideas. Also the big 3 is alternator to positive on battery and negative on battery to engine block and to chassis??? Is that right? I know to use 0/1 gauge. I'll get it all from knukonceptz.

By the way I know what I'm doing and I have done systems before. I installed it all myself and I'm not new to this stuff.

Thanks for any help it IS appreciated,
Nick

Just asking because you didnt say anything about it, how far are the signal cables from the power?

Power is run up the drivers side and the RCA's are run up the passengers. They come near eachother or even cross once. I have an 8 gauge power and 4 gauge ground. I also tried running a new set of RCA cables outside the car to the trunk and it still didn't change the noise. My battery to chassis is a small 8 guage wire and it isn't done very well.

How far from your amp is the it grounded? It sound be the shortest distance possible. Maybe get some patch cables meant to keep out electrical interference. Hmm also is your amp bolted directly to the chassis? If so put something non-conductive between the amp and the chassis.

My ground cable is a 3 foot 4 gauge, I have used it on this amp with this power wire(8 gauge) in my old car. The other RCA's I have are a nice set of Rockfords that I got in hopes of fixing the problem, but when I ran it completely outside the car and it made no difference I didn't think it was worth it to replace the semi-cheap RCA's that I had already ran through the car. And the amp is screwed to MDF that is screwed to a metal crossmember behind my back seat. I just can't figure this out, I don't know what options I have left. I guess it's time to throw down $30-40 and do the big 3. although with my luck that won't change a thing. Is it logical to run my headunit ground wire straight to the batter, just to see if it will fix it. I figure it can't hurt, right???

By the way thanks for the help!
