I have a friend who was with a cuple of his friends on friday night and they ment up with this guy who has a turbo diesel V8 or V10 F-250 and they disided to race. Well, my friend was in the neon and he said that when they started the truck had them for like about a mile and I knew that that would happen because of the towing power kickin in, but all of a sudden the neon caught right up to them and beat them, now is this possible?

Oh yah, both vheicles were stock exept the truck used to have a lift kit on it. My friend said the guy in the truck said that it died down at 100 MPH due to the govenor, but I thought it was 110 MPH, is this right? The neon was averaging out at about 110-125 MPH during the race.

AND AGAIN, sory for postying this much but the truck was manual while I dont know about the car thogh.

Why they flew past after a huge loss for the win you ask?
Your answer consist of only 2.5 words: Ricer Fly-Bye.

actualy the car was not riced up or anything bone prue perform-look stock. but ya can call it that if you want to. I just want to know how they even caught up to the truck when he was still floring it? My friend said it was like a good 5 or so od min long race passing cars out on the left and right side's at both times.

Thr truck hit it's speed limiter. Resulting in the neon doing, A ricer fly-by.

Ricer fly-bys have nothing to do with how the car looks. It's purely the drivers atitude

I love the Ricer Fly-By, especially the indicators coming on after they pass you. Golden.

Okay, where is that BS icon when you need it...I'm sorry but there is no way on my green earth that an F250 beat an SRT-4...unless the F-250 was chipped 8 ways 'till sunday to put out massive amounts of boost from it's turbo...but even then, it's unlikely.

HighRev87

the thread says neon NON-SRT4.

But im pretty sure the thruck wasnt chipped, as it wouldnt have a 100mph limiter anymore.

Yeah i also agree. The neon did the Ricer-Fly By

whoops...missed the "non" part...well it's believable then.

Fixed that problem.

I had the same problem at first... a down fall when you speed read and just look for key words... you tend to miss on little shit like that.

On topic just for a second...

how fast was this race taking place at?

like Grit Master said... it could possibly be the limiter.

I have a question though. Would the truck have a weaker top end than the neon... or does that turbo just take over for any possible loss in the top end?

-The Stig-

Those stock turbo's spool off idle. They're ment for towing, not highspeeds.

So, they make the majority of their power down low. So they don't have much top end. They still can book it down the road though.

Thats what i thought... but wasn't quite sure... so basically it just beat the truck cause it had a better top end... and possibly some mods.

Tiburon99
12-22-2004, 06:48 AM
how fast was this race taking place at?and possibly some mods

The car was going at about 110 to 125 mph, and the truck about 100-110 mph. AND NO MODS WERE DONE TO THE CAR OR TRUCK, believe me, I know both people that were racing, there rednecks they would not mod their vheicles.

Oh yeah, RedNecks never modify their vehicles. :shakehead

Those trucks are speed limited to around ~90ish mph. Their performance can be outstanding - for about $2K you can get a bolt-on compound turbo kit, re-tune the direct injection system, and be rocking with around 500 hp and who knows how much torque - 1000 ft/lbs? That will push a 5000 lb truck into the low 13's, high 12's.

Diesels are rev-limited in top-speed, most diesel motors can't rev past 3500 rpm. Hence their oft-quoted 300,000 mile longevity. This is also why they have to produce so much torque to make any sort of horsepower. Their potential is truly amazing, and the engines are often stout enough to spray with nitrous on top of 35 lbs of boost.

BTW - ricer fly-bys are stupid. There is no sense in flying by someone if they already let up and you have been thoroughly spanked.

My buddie has a f250 diesel thats turbo and when me and him took it to the U.P i met up with another friend and he wanted to race him, the other guy has a cav with cai, headers, and fart can,k&n. we started at 50 and the f250 was about a car on him until he hit 100 and the f250 just shuts off and then comes back on around 95, so they are some what fast but you have to get the programer. my buddie just bought it and has it set at 50% witch made a big difference, now if you power brake the truck and floor it, when it shifts into second the tires chirp, it also does this in third gear. the f250 is a sweet truck i would buy one anyday for a second car or winter truck.

I've got a F-350, and I'll kill just about any little 4 banger that pulls up. But anything after 85 and I die. Kinda pisses off the mexicans that race their 5.0's cuzz my 4 door extend bed work truck will still kick their asses. God I love it. Yet I still drive an 01 eclipse w/ a 4 banger in it as well. Only cuzz it gets good gas milage.

A chip won't take away the speed governor if their even is one. As the case with by brothers duramax atleast. 100mph is it, that's the end of the gearing. Considering you can afford a diesel truck (a new one) the cost of making them fast is pretty damn cheap. Exhaust, intake, and chip are good for a 14 second flat duramax. The cummins are suupposedly the ones getting the most horsepower though.

The diesels are v8's. The new ones are heavy and slow as shit, and the pre-01's are even slower. They shut down at 95mph. They're dangerous and uncontrollable on slick or curvy roads. But they pull and tow like a champ.

I spun one the other day on an icy highway :dunno:

I believe the Cummins in the Dodge trucks is an inline-6. They are a very advanced 24-valve motor, and as mentioned previously, probably have the most stock potential.

The Ford Powerstrokes are V-8's, as well as the GM Duratec 6.6? I am not familiar with the GM engines. The Ford diesels are very good as well.

If you are willing to put a bigger turbo and slicks on a diesel as well as the exhaust and chip you can easily be looking at 12's.

Good luck hooking up though - my 1988 F-250 w/6.9 diesel and 4-spd was nearly undrivable in bad weather. Even light rain, and it would spin its tires with even the slightest bit of throttle. There was also a terrible shudder if you spun your tires wrong and the leaf springs started to wrap up and unload. It did good burnouts though!

Key word "just about" :licka:

I would have to say that even if the truck was in neutral the entire time, going uphill, that the truck would still win.

Propane, not nitrous.
