It feels good to be back home, in Cassie, on roads I know well. I was on my way to Barns and Nobles to pick up that 'Car Hacks and Mods for Dummies' when a younger guy goes flying by me. I can see the Badge, its a Benzy. I pull up next to him at the first light that he decides to stop for (I'm kinda desperate for races, I never usually run a yellow thats been yellow for a while...), and look over. Hes yappin away on his cellphone, backwards hat, and one hand on the wheel. The car, I now see, is a silver C230 Kompressor.

I decide that the Fred Durst wannabe (I wear my hat backwards too...but its a BoSox hat, so its ok) looks like the kinda who'll wanna run, and that the car is most likely his, not a parent's. I rev a few times, and look over, and he gives me a look like I just interupted his phone call with the Grand Pubah of whatever. He rolls down his window and asks me if I know who he is. I say no, and he drops his name. I know the name, its the QB for a school in my area that just won state.

Well, I respond with the usual "big f*cking deal" shrug and just say "and?" So he revs at me, and I check around to look for cops. None. Light eventually goes green (dont ya just love how in the hollidays, the lights switch from timers to pressure pads, and the traffic is ALWAYS going the other way), and we punch it. From the line, the tourqy Benz holds with me through mid second, but I start to pull away at around 45. I keep a nice steady pull up to 60, and by now I'm two lengths or so on him. I let it off, holding it in the top of third at 60, and watch as he comes up for the infamous flyby. I let him get to my rear door, then punch it again. This time, I pull through 90, putting two and half or so lengths on him. I decide thats enough fun here, as a 90 in a 45 ticket would not be a merry Christmas.

He flys by and I shrug. At least he didn't put on the emergency flashers. However, we did garner a little attention. I see a set of headlights comming up fast in my rearview, and I can tell they are pickup lights. I'm worried that we caught the attention of a state trooper (they all drive pickups, and the only people I know who drive with lights on durring the day), but instead of the low end Dodge pickup settling at my door, a black SRT-10 does. I look over the truck, and the driver nods at me like he was asking me if I want to run. Now, I'm thinking why the hell is he going to waste his gas on me, but I decide why not, and point to an upcomming light. He jumps ahead of me, damn that thing is loud, and he has a big 'Mopar' sticker on his rear window, just above the itsy bitsy K&N sticker. It didn't sound stock, but then again...I've never heard a SRT-10 Ram before, so I don't know.

We line up at the light, and he's reving pretty hard. Yes, I am intimidated. The light goes green, and I really dont even know why I try. He spins the tires pretty bad, so I get about a half car jump on him, which quickly disapears as he shoots by me like I'm standing still. I dont even know why I bring it up to 60, as he puts quite a few lengths on me. He slows down, and I give him the thumbs up, he gives it back. By now, my turn is comming up, and I don't wanna waste any more fuel, so we go out seperate ways.

Finally, I'm on the way home after decindg not to get the book yet, and as I'm cruising along, I remeber why I love living in my area of Texas. As I pull off a highway, I see a nice race start to develop. I wanted to join in, but it would have been totally worthless. The highway exits onto a three lane road, and as I exit, a beautiful looking, nicely modded (from the sound) NSX slides by me moving at a fair clip. Close behind was a Cobra (the most recent one) with Magnaflow decals follows. The two line up in front of me, and based on my distance and speed, I think they went from a roll at 50. Now, as if this wasn't enough, a yellow Lamborghin Gallardo comes flying by me like I'm going backwards. I guess he wanted to play too...Damn, I thought the Aston Martin sounded sexy, this thing was even better. He quikly catches up to the NSX and Cobra, who are about a good bus length or four infront of me by now. I wanted to chase, but I had a date to make, so I just went off away from them, somewhat sad that I had to miss what promised to be a great race. Damn women...Oh well, hopefull I'll at least see the Gallardo again.

I've never seen one of the new lambos on the road (murcielago or gallardo) but where my dad used to live, there was a red diablo that parked in the spot across from him all the time...it was niiiiice.

great story.. we got one of those SRT-10 Trucks at my local Dodge Dealer, but for some reason, they parked it in the over flow lot...which is in the wooded area, and dark, and pretty much far away from civilization. just waiting to be vandalized. Instead they put the new Magnums, and regular Rams in the showroom/lot.

When he said "dont you know who I am?" and he responded as a non-proffesional quarter back, I would have just started laughing my ass off!
