240sx brake queststimmyx1 12-20-2004, 12:33 PM i have been searching around for the conversion parts needed for a 5 lug conversion. well i found replacement hubs with no modifications needed to anything. my problem is i have a sponsorship from a company that gives me a good discount on brembo brakes systems. i cant seem to figure out what parts i need. i know i need a 5 X 114 rotor but then i cant seem to figure out what really gonna fit. also getting the right calipers are in question too. i already know im gonna have to replace all brake lines with i wanted to do in the first place for safety and performance reasons. when it comes to fitting on brakes for this conversion i am a nub and i could really use some help. btw i have on order 17x9.5 rays gramlights 57s so i need something that will fit in those wheels another perk of sponsorship logik23 12-20-2004, 01:55 PM I'm pretty sure S14 5 lug brakes will fit an S13 with a 5 lug conversion. timmyx1 12-20-2004, 07:25 PM so the calipers would mount? probably the bigest problem i have is getting the proper calipers to mount right the rotors are easy to find logik23 12-20-2004, 07:32 PM Get 4 lug S13 calipers and 5 lug S14 rotors. Chuki_breath 12-20-2004, 07:33 PM why not just get a system thats made for a japanese 180sx???? they should fit, im sure they have an aplication for them. Really its not that hard. why not ask your sponser, id hope they would have a clue about something. With those rims any brake kit will clear so i wouldnt worry. Really depends on how much stopping power your going to need, and if your going to be road racing and what not. logik23 12-20-2004, 07:35 PM 180s are 5 lug? Chuki_breath 12-20-2004, 07:49 PM yes if i remember, but since hes going to be doing the conversion it wont make a difference, thats why i said just get a kit made for a 180. TatII 12-20-2004, 09:26 PM just get a brembo kit for 4 lug 180sx's. this will save you trouble for the 5 lug swap. also when you go with larger rotors, you need to put caliper extending brackets. a brembo kit will come with that along with all the hardware included it even comes with steel braided lines, and the rotors are usually a 2 piece unit. logik23 12-20-2004, 09:46 PM But 5 lug is better, mor rims and looks better. timmyx1 12-21-2004, 11:42 AM yes also the wheels i want i can only get the correct size in 5 lug but thanks to every one with thier help D-Bo 12-21-2004, 04:15 PM get the z32 4-piston calipers, with steel braded lines. thats probably the most efficient setup for the 240 cause you can get the most expensive part in good used condition.. i have them on the front (don't really need them on the back) and they're amazing.. all i need is something to increase the pressure (i don't know enough about braking systems so i don't know what part to get). once i get that, i'll use the pads, rotors and lines i have now and replace them when the time comes logik23 12-21-2004, 05:04 PM Get a 300ZX master cylinder. D-Bo 12-21-2004, 05:12 PM is that all it is?? just the master cylinder? i think i heard something about a pressure somethingorother.. TatII 12-21-2004, 10:17 PM pressure thingy your talkin about is called the proportioning valve. what it does is that it sets a split point for the brake pressure going from the front to the rear. in other words, it reduces the brake pressure goin to the rear disc because when you brake, the weight is shifted off the rear to the front, so the rear would lock up. by putting a different proportioning valve, it will reduce the rear brakes to the proper pressure. this is why your rear brakes lock up first when you do the Z32 brake swap. by swapping in the Z master cylinder, it will include the correct proportioning valve to let your brakes work properly. i have a Z32 master cylinder installed on my ride. damn i had to pull out hte text book for this cause i haven't needed to touch on this subject in years!! Chuki_breath 12-21-2004, 10:31 PM i wouldnt mind having a copy of your text book lol sounds good and informative. And actually you can get more rims than you think in four lug also, im going to sport the 4 lug, y change if you dont have too you know what im saying. I mean good companies make 4 lug rims that fit our rides....example advan's: super advan vers. 2 MechManZero 12-22-2004, 12:15 AM Well dont knock on the kid too much. Give him a link with some good info then send him to ebay if he wants the 5 lug conversion. Play fair. You were once probably asking questions just like him. TatII 12-22-2004, 12:26 AM the text books from my school kicks ass that one includes everything about wheels, tires, chassis, suspension, brakes, geometry of suspensions, etc. my friends go to trade school, and they're text book is no where near as detailed as mine since their entire curriculum is in one book, when i have like 6 books that is just as thick as his one book. but anyways yeah back to the subject, if you want to learn more about master cylinders. try typing in proportion valves, metering valves, etc they might have tech articles on it. i also had formulas for master cylinder force vs actualy brake force by measureing master cylinder diameter and doing a ratio to the brake piston diameters. but thats in my notebook some where. again haven't touched this stuff casue honestly no one really goes that detailed into this stuff when they change parts. unless your an engineer, and specialize in brakes. logik23 12-22-2004, 12:32 AM What are these books? Where did you get them? MechManZero 12-22-2004, 12:45 AM I wish I took automotive in highschool... If they had a class for it. timmyx1 12-22-2004, 03:07 AM well the wheels i want only come in 5 lug so the conversion is gonna be done im only going with 5 lug hubs so i dont know about the z32 conversion? because if im correct dont the z32 brakes require the uprights for the rear? im only doing the hubs so what i need is calipers that will fit on a s13 with 5 lug rotars. and brembo is the brand i want because i get a nice discount due to sponsorship same goes with the wheels so basicly get 5 lug rotars for s14 get brembo calipers for an s13 with the exended mounts and that would do? the s14 rotars 5 lug rotars would work? evenything would line up? sorry when it comes to brakes i dont know a whole lot MechManZero 12-22-2004, 10:49 AM I would definitely stick with the 300zx for parts to get the 5 lugs you want. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
