man it is like 0 degrees out side and my heater only blows cold air i don't know if it would be a sensor; a blendor door; or a heater core. the thermostat is good because the top hose was hot and my gauge went up like normal. and i am tired of driving it and being freezing cold plus i have a daughter i need to keep warm.

A quick test. With the engine at normal operating temperature, temp dial set to hottest and the blower off feel both heater hoses. They should be about the same temp. If one is colder it indicates a blocked heater core.

k thank you for the help but what if they are around the same temp?

You might still be low on coolant. Not low enough to affect the temp sensor, but low enough you are not pushing coolant through the heater core.

If they are they same then it is probably a bad controller.

Do you have manual A/C Heater or Automatic Temperature Control and are both of the hoses I asked you about the same temperature or not?

i haven't had a chance to check the hoses but i have automatic climate control i know the top hose gets pretty warm when warmed up

I'm not talking about the radiator hoses which I think you are when you say the top hose is getting hot.

I don't know if a '95 has a self test or not but try this: Position the blower control knob at AUTO and the Function Selector knob to either PANEL or FLOOR. Then press and release the COOL and OUTSIDE TEMP buttons simultaneously and, within 2 sec, press and release the WARM button. The display should a tracer segment going in a counterclockwise direction during the self test. At the end of the self test trouble codes will be displayed. If there are no faults the whole display will illuminate. To exit the self test press the COOL button. Leave the ignition on at least 30 sec after you exit the self test so that the system can recalibrate itself. Let me know what code numbers show up. Your only problem now is the inside temp of the car MUST be between 50-90 degrees F for the test to work. I hope you have a heated garage or that it warms up soon!

I dont see that happening, on a warm day or a warm garage.

Plug a hair dryer into an extension cord and place in the car for 6 hours on high! :D

I have a 94 with a 4.6 and it has a Climate Control. Last winter it was doing the same thing as you are experiencing and I did that self-diagnostic check,( the same as 97Bird described), and it re-set everything and since then everything has worked fine.

alright 97 bird i got the codes off of the self test and they are 42 and 43

97Bird

42= Ambient Temp Sensor is shorted, 43= ATS is open. PM me with your email address and I will send you the tests for this sensor and circuit. I tried to cut and paste them here and into an email to you from this site but couldn't get it to work.

I think it is on the radiator support. I sent the picture of it so that you could see what it looks like.

Hey 97bird, I did that test, and got 24, what does that mean?

I don't know if you guys are still participating to this site but I have a 94 V8 Bird and I am having the same problem with my heat. Both heater hoses are the same heat; I have taken the heater hoses loose from the heater core with the car running to flush the heater core and the coolant gushes out so that makes me think the heater core isnt blocked. The trouble code I got was an "02" but I can't find out what that code equates to be. The cooling system has been flushed; The t-stat has been replaced; blower motor works fine; A/C works fine. I can have the temp set to 90 degrees or 60 degrees but the air is the same unless I turn the A/C on which gets cold. Please advise.

Welcome to the forum nctriangleman. It sounds like the blend door isn't operating so the incoming air isn't going through the heater core before it comes out of the vents. The actuator that operates the door may be broken or the door is stuck. On the last page of the Tech help thread I posted how to run the self test and I also posted where to get repair info that may be of interest to you (see the last post on the last page for repair info)
