New Owner Maint. Questions.K9Torro 12-18-2004, 04:38 PM Ok this is my first post so take it easy on me :grinno: I just purchased a used 951 from the original owner, he took European delivery at the plant in Oct 85, the car is a 1986 model year. He supplied me with two complete OEM Porsche maint record books plus reems of computer generated repair orders from the dealer, just to tell you he spent over 14 K in maint at the dealer since 1997 until last month that is as far as I have added up to this point. He basically did everything needed but reading the stuff it indicates a couple of things, hence my questions. I am a pretty fair home mechanic with a decent garage of both hand and air tools, having said that here we go - (1) It states that the ball joint boots are split and that the joints will need replacing at some point due to exposure to the elements, it this something I can do ? (2) The oil pressure gage peg's at max when you turn on the key and does not move, I believe it to be the " sender ", I know I can handle this repair, can anyone tell me where it is located and any pointers ? (3) The two internal belts were last changed at 102 K miles the car now has 132 K when should I change them again, an is this something I can do myself ? The car water pump was replaced at 105 K. OK thats it for now, T FabricGATOR 12-29-2004, 12:33 AM These guys will like to hear you got records........ Belts are probably half life as determined by inspection and adjustment. See clarks-garage.com for internal belt adjustment and alot of other procedures and repairs. Enjoy the car...... I do! benign28 01-12-2005, 11:28 PM benign28 here don't do the ball joints yourself let a porsche mechanic do it it's not replacing a relay uknow and then align those tires at all three points check the shocks and suspesion while the tire is off because of the speeds this car can travel at and you will travel at those speeds otherwise you wouldn't have bought the car. the belts only need changing at 70 k unless you really fly spec is 60 they'll hold up till 100k and the oil gauge should peg until the car is warm as it warms it should come down to approx 3.0/4.0 this car has much torque that why the gauge pegs vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
