The car works fine in reverse, but while in drive, or low, car only creeps at a s much as 4000rpm.

Try flushing the transmission and replacing the transmission filter. If that has no effect, get out your checkbook.

Yep. That's what I was afraid of. I'm not sure it's worth it. The car has 181,000 miles on it, and has been in the family since new, so it doesn't owe me anything. I think it's just time to say good-bye to an old friend.
