Hi. Anyone out there experienced and solved the following problem with their overdrive shifting? I have a 94 Grand Cherokee Limited, 6 cyl, 4wd. Seems whenever the car heats up, the overdrive light comes on and then the car doesn't want to shift out of second gear. So, I am forced to drive 40 mph while the engine is revving at 4k. Obviously, not a good situation. Already had the tranny rebuilt. Mechanic is not sure of the problem.

your transmission is overheatign check the cooler lines to make sure theys are not clogged.

whenever the Transmission overheats it shuts the OD off to try to keep the transmission cool, and that is why your not shifting out of 2nd as well.

Check the tranny cooler lines/radiator to make sure the are not clogged.
