The float got bent and hung ip on the baffle inside the tank harley2 01-07-2005, 02:36 PM Hi lately my gas gauge does not read the correct measurements it goes from half to empty usually after i put gas in it or i am at a idle it will go straight to empty and the low fuel light comes on? gkh7890 01-12-2005, 07:39 PM Most likely, you have a bad sending unit. This is attached to the side of the fuel pump which is inside the gas tank. The sending unit alone at GM costs about $135. You can buy the whole pump assembly w/ sending unit on Ebay - - PAY attention to your part number. To replace it (yourself), either take off the bed OR drop the tank. For $15.00 I'd buy a Chiltons manual...it has paid off many times over for me now. It walks you thru the process of dropping the tank, step-by-step. I just replaced the sending unit in my '00 Chevy Express van. I dropped the tank on that job. If you do drop the tank, run it down as far as you can (where the light would come on normally - which indicates there is about 4 gallons in the tank). Change your fuel filter at this time (if you drop the tank). My guage has gone bad as well and I'm getting ready to replace mine. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
