It's rare that I actually say "WOW" out loud...

...but a great shot of GTR #01R wearing it's prototype livery that I have never seen before certainly deserves it. :bigthumb:

Hello,

excellent Erik, what I am saying seeing this picture : This a race car which doesn't look like a classic race car, nearly glamour :)

Since you asked - this photo was emailed to me from a 'friend of the program' - it's someone who doesn't post here, but knows I'm always on the lookout for great McLaren content so he sends me things he thinks I might not have when he stumbles upon them. I wish I had more friends like him. :bigthumb:

Anyway, I have since learned where on the web he found this and will be soliciting the help of someone else here on the forum in hopes that he can get us more photos if they exist. I can't imagine this is the only shot of this car that was taken in that setting and if it turns out that it is I will be sorely disappointed. Hopefully some more stuff will come out from the effort.

Well, it's just been a few weeks since I started this thread, and here I am saying "WOW" all over again. :bananasmi

I came home to find another shot of GTR #01R wearing its original livery hanging out in my email inbox. The strange thing is that this one was totally unsolicited and it comes from someone I don't even know. His English wasn't all that great, but that doesn't bother me - this photo is simply spectacular and is clickable for a 2185x1499 resolution version. :bigthumb:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/Peloton25/McLaren%20F1/GTRPhoto_edit_SM.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/Peloton25/McLaren%20F1/GTRPhoto_edit_LG.jpg)

I spent a little time cleaning up the image in Photoshop, removing some of the film and scanning artifacts and it came out very nice I think. If anyone wants this at at smaller size than the hi-res provided, let me know.

Incidentally, I have no clue where this shot was taken, but it does appear to be John Neilsen behind the wheel, much like the photo from Driving Ambition of the GTRs first shake-down runs.

Anyway - a big thanks to our mystery source! If you are here, make yourself known. We've dealt with limited English in the past and it's been fine so don't be shy. I'm sure you can communicate in my language a lot better than I can in whatever yours might be. ;) :D

It found me. ;) :D

And I totally agree - the colors are awesome! The original was a little gray, but the 'Auto Contrast' option in Photoshop made the colors pop with one click.

The pic was taken at Silverstone circa 18th January 1995. I won an issue of autocar from 25th Jan 95 and has a full page spread of this car, not this pic tho. Its similar to the pic in driving ambition but at a different angle. I'm warming up the scanner now....

Oh - I knew it was a "John" - I guess I should have checked the book. Thanks for the clarification. Sounds like I need to start looking for that Autoweek.

Do you really need to watermark your scans? :headshake :screwy:

Anyway - thanks for putting those up. I would like to have that one for the shelf so I will keep an eye out. If you get tired of looking at your copy, let me know. ;)

I will when I get home - I'm at work behind a firewall that blocks traffic to public email websites like Hotmail. :thumbsdow

I have a workaround with a laptop and a dirty connection to the internet that isn't on the corporate network, but I don't have the laptop with me today.
