Does it shudder? Also, does it rock side-to-side or front-to-back?

Sry, didn't notice the title. Well, is it a jerk, like a skip or..?

When you say rocking, is it pronounced, like 3 or 4 inches, or a smaller movement?

I'd Check tires for roundness and balance, and the brake drums to see if they need to be turned.

it is pretty "pronounced"

Sounds like it's time to jack up the rear end and run it a bit; you should be able to see whatever is bouncing around.

Depends on a couple of things -- does it feel like it's going to shake apart and can you find a "friend" with an enclosed garage?

Wait a sec. Michigan. Has it snowed alot? Check your rims, and see if there is snow caked in them. I've had that vibration with snow in the rims.

Don't really understand your last. Did you say that there IS snow caked in your rims? If so, I'd say that's your problem.

Weight in the back of your truck? That shouldn't cause a vibration, especially side to side.

Have you had an opportunity to get the truck up on jackstands to run it yet?

You could always get a buddy to follow you and watch the tires when it's vibrating.

Slipped belt on one or more of the tires?

It's one of the things in the post, either yours or the wheel or axle. Seems like he hasn't done any checking just yet.

Would a slipped belt create that much of a rock/vibration? I believe he said/meant about 2 in or more side to side.. That's quite a ways. And another thing.. if it were a bent wheel, axle problem or slipped belt, would it not continue even if you reach a certain constant speed?

You're right there, Bama. All the problems we've mentioned would likely cause a vibration at all speeds, not just slowing down. Guess we'll have to wait for more info.

On one of the work trucks, a Chevy 3/4 ton, it would vibrate so badly around 40 mph. You could hang around at speeds just below, or just above 40, but if you drove constantly at that speed it was just unbearable. If you had a coffee mug in the cupholder when you started off, it would stay until you got up to that speed, and then it would be spilling everywhere. It was that bad. Turned out it was the passenger side steering tire that had a slipped belt.

If what is happening here is happening at all speeds, then it's probably something worse and more dangerous. I don't know what else to tell you.

He finally got someone to drive behind him, it's the right rear wheel is vibrating; new post was started.
