Active Aero

Just curious what active aero is....someone please explain this to me...

12-13-2004, 05:33 AM
At higher speeds the front and rear spoilers lift up so that there is a bit more down force.

12-16-2004, 08:53 AM
the front one goes down the rear spoiler goes up

this will show a picture of the tilt of the rear spoiler, I found a picture earlier that showed the front air dam up and down, but I can't find that link anymore...sorry

Yea, down in the front is what I meant. Its mostly just a cool little thing that dosent do too much in reality.

actually you would be surprised...some russian guy put his vr4 in a wind tunnel and got some good results

not that we need this to keep planted on the road and not lift off or anything...but it does have some effect

12-17-2004, 12:10 PM
so it does -0.07 how much can that help?

12-17-2004, 05:13 PM
Wow, thats awesome. Honeslty i never even heard of active aero.. but it is a good idea and can help a little bit in that last few seconds or whatever.

12-17-2004, 08:20 PM
-0.07?? what number are you talking about?

12-18-2004, 12:10 AM
Check in the first link Igovert posted it said the aero tilts .07 or somthing...

12-18-2004, 01:21 AM
ahhh, I missed the 1st link.

12-18-2004, 11:19 AM
It's not that the spoiler does -.07, that isn't's that paired with the front airdam, they make the entire car have an overall aerodynamic lift of zero. The coefficients vary with speed, but the overall lift always remains 0.

12-18-2004, 05:51 PM
Nope, you read that wrong. The drag changed by 0, the lift has deffinatly changed.

12-18-2004, 07:13 PM
and in what year does it realy work at i mean what car years cause i have a 91 and i dont think it does that

12-19-2004, 12:24 PM
I dont know what you mean what year it really works at, its suposed to work for all vr4's up to 95 at least I think its 95

12-19-2004, 01:19 PM
There is no active areo in the 97+ models that I know of. The reason I said it wasnt realy doing much is that a). You could just have a spoiler set to provide downforce and it would come into effect as the wind speed increased b). Our cars can't take sharp turns going 150mph like F1 cars and the dowforce provided isn't close to the thousands of pounds of force created by the F1 cars at max speed so downforce isnt realy needed much... an interesting fact is that given a track that goes from being on the ground to being upsidedown in the air the F1 cars could theoretically drive upsidedown because of all the down force.

12-19-2004, 06:35 PM
oh so its only for the vr4s cause i have a sl thanks anyway

12-20-2004, 03:11 AM
so just take if off right

12-20-2004, 01:11 PM
:) :grinyes:

I can feel the difference on mine, but then again im crazy and often spend time over 100.

but then again im crazy and often spend time over 100.

Nah...that's pretty normal as far as I'm concerned. I'd say the question of sanity doesn't come into effect until 150+
