I am posting this for my in-laws who do not have a computer. Their 2001 Sierra 1500 is having the brakes completly fail intermittently. A tech (neighborhood garage) told them he was absolutely sure it was a problem with the ECM but suggested they search online to find out if anyone was having similar problems, in case this might be a wide spread problem and perhaps a recall or service bulletin has been or will be issued on it. I haven't found anything yet and thought I'd ask here if anyone is familiar with this problem. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Well first what kind of failure are they having..what are the symptoms?

I would shy away from a mechanic that wants you to do the research for a remedy to your concern..he doesn't know what he is doing and can cause more problems then he may be able to solve!

Is this a complete failure of the hyrodulic system, vacum assist or an ABS concern?

My truck is a 2004. Approx. 2 weeks after taking delivery of the vehicle, the brakes failed....as in no resistance, to the floor. This happened 3 times more in about another 2 week period. I took it to the dealer, they kept it for 3 days ...stated that they could not find the problem and that "perhaps you don't know how abs is supposed to feel?"
Today I met a neighbor with a 2000 Sierra who has had the same problem for close to 5 years now...his truck can no longer be driven. Another neighbor has a 2002 Sierra....same problem. This is 3 Sierra 1500 trucks in a 3 block radius! I too am looking for anyone else who has this problem or has perhaps found a solution through GMC.
