Hello all

i have a 96 cherokee sport with the i6 i find that my jeep starts to shimmy at speeds between 56 and 64 mph anything below or above those speeds i have no problems. im aware of the death wobble that we jeep owners have encounterd at one time or another but this is not the same, i have put new rims and tires and replaced the shock stablizer and i also replaced the front shocks, when i did all that it took care of the death wobble issue i had when i first got the jeep i took it to have the front end aligned but the garage said that it is not the cause of the shimmy there mechanic said something aout my tires might be bad, but if this is true wouldn't i have the shimmy at any speed not just at the speeds that i notuice it anyhelp would you can give would be great

bad tires could be the cause, or out of balance. Do you feel it in the steering wheel, this would indicate front tires, feel it in the seat would be the rear end, that would help isolate it

I realize all situations are different but...
A thousand dollars and mulitple trips to multiple garages and it turned out to be tires. Go figure.

Hope this helps. I have an 88 Cherokee LTD 6cyl

i have had them balanced a couple of time all ready, i do feel it in the steering wheel but sometimes the passenger seat will start to shake as well but not always, i will go to firestone where i bought the tires and ask them to see what they can do. Im sure they will say its something else.... ill keep you posted

This might sound dumb, but I bought my wife a Suzuki Grand Vitara (used) and shortly noticed a wobble in the front very similar to one described. It was great up to about 60, then this vibe would show up. It wobbled the steering and shimmied the car. It turned out to be the CV axle from the diff to the passenger side front wheel. Now I know we don't have CV's in the Cherokees, but is it possible that a bad U-joint in the front could cause this kind of prob...?
