motorbike turbobeef_bourito 12-11-2004, 01:46 PM hey, Has anyone here heard of someone putting a turbo on a motorbike? I think it'd be pretty cool but i'm not sure that it could work without some pretty heavy mods. The thing that worries me the most is the high compression that bikes run on. I don't really want to mess too much with compression because I would want to keep the engine intact, working, and efficient. CBFryman 12-11-2004, 02:08 PM you can run lower boost on high compression. as long as the engine is 4 stroke its no harder than turbocharging a car. but i would reccomend the bike being fule injected, carburators are a pain to screw with, but it can be and has been done. what bike are you thinking of? I was just looking into options for the future and seeing how i don't even have a bike yet, i think i'll take a couple of years to get good enough at biking to control it. nissanfanatic 12-12-2004, 12:13 AM http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=309745 If it doesn't work, trust me you don't wanna see it. That bike is way way way too fast. xyfalconsrock 12-12-2004, 04:10 AM world record for fastest wheelie by a motorbike is set by a turbo charged hayabusa.327Km/h. so turbo bikes must exist. CBFryman 12-12-2004, 02:08 PM Wow. Both of thoes bikes are insane. The Video was bad ass. It remids me of a video of a bike. it was a helmit came like that one. only all you could see was the speedo and tach and gear selector. it had a stock speedo that went up to 200mph. it was crusing in 6th down the highway at around 70mph. the driver down shifts to 3rd and guns it. 4th, 5th, 6th. at the top of 5th he flatlines it and shifts to 6th. gets to 8,000RPM in 6th and lets off. anyone who has ridden a bike knows that when you let off it slows almost immediatly, especially at high speeds. it took that needle at least 3seconds to get off the stopper. had to be going well over 230mph. it looks up during hte deceleration and the stripes on the road look like one sold linesand power lones look like picket fences. scary. the turbo on that bike peaked at 1.7 atmospheres and never got below 0.8 atmostpehres while shifting. i wish i could relocate that video. soundagent 51 12-16-2004, 10:21 PM that is what you want, though, a bike to take to the track and blow everyone away. if i had a bike, that would be the first thing i would do, but it wouldnt be a daily driver. SaabJohan 12-17-2004, 08:53 AM I know of a turbocharged Hayabusa with around 700 hp. There have also been a few motorcycles that have been equipped with turbochargers from factory. nissanfanatic 12-18-2004, 12:56 AM What the hell was he running to extract 700hp from the Hayabusa engine? The guy in that video I posted was running 18psi. With my pressure ratio times the factory HP, claimed hp*pressure ratio=379.7hp. Measured Hp*PR=334.8hp. Even 30psi gives me 528hp using claimed HP*pressure ratio. Just what the hell did the owner do to that bike? SaabJohan 12-30-2004, 05:01 PM The boost was probably close to 3 bar or so, the turbocharger was a Schwitzer from a diesel truck. The motorcycle was built to compete in dyno competitions. The use of a turbocharger from a diesel truck made a very efficient setup, so exhaust pressure was low. nissanfanatic 12-31-2004, 11:33 PM 3 bar. Jeez. Ever see it on the track? I can't imagine when you could actually go WOT without bringing the front up. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
