99 Tahoe tough starts, coolant leakazmotorsports 12-10-2004, 08:22 AM I know you've heard this one before, but I thought it was my thermostat leaking so I changed it and found out that it was the threaded fitting behind the alternator leaking all the way down past the tranny. Well throughout all this I had my fuel pump go out and changed the fuel filter in the process. Well I drove it to work today and kept an eye on the coolant leak, which was very minor. My check engine light was on since the fuel pump change yesterday so I thought I would disconect the negative battery wire when I got home and let the light reset. I waited a couple of hours and went to reconect the neg. wire. I went to start my Tahoe and it was very difficult to start. I had to pump and pump the gas and finally got it started. While I was trying to start it I noticed that I was leaking some coolant from the fitting behind the alternator a little more than normal. I turned it off to try it again and the same problem continued. It's sounds like it's about to crank over and then it doesn't, then after a couple more tries it starts. My question is due to this leak getting my starter all wet is it possible that could it be wet enough to make it difficult to start? Also my check engine light is still on? What's the tool I need to remove the treaded connector if it breaks off in the process? Thanks guys. azmotorsports 12-10-2004, 10:22 AM It started just fine this morning, so I turned off to try it again, and it started just fine. What the hell is going on??? tertiarydog 04-15-2005, 02:13 AM I had the same trouble as AZ Motorsport wrote. I also have an odd start issue. Check the positive terminal to see if it's connected well. The whole wire could be corroded. I have had a water pump go, intake seal replaced, thermostat seal replaced after the same experience, and now I'm still leaking coolant. What should I do now? Anyone. This R-motor engine is a nightmare vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
