1996 Jetta GL 2.0 sputtering/slow getting into gearils1970 12-09-2004, 08:13 PM My wife drives our a 96 Jetta GL with the 2.0 gas engine and lately has noticed that the thing begins to sputter at a stop light and....it takes for ever to get into gear....its automatice.... any suggestions. ils1970 12-09-2004, 08:15 PM sorry about the spelling folks.. veedubmechanic 12-09-2004, 11:08 PM How many miles? At that year i bet there alot of miles 90k+. If so sputtering or bogging at a stop light could be many things. And slow getting into gear? Do you mean its slow from park to gear or shifting like 1-2 or 2-3 ect.. Its deffinately time for a trans fluid flush with a new filter and gasket if you already havent done so already- that will help clean out the solenoids and help delayed shifting - normally runs about 180 at the dealership. VW's use Special atf that places like jiffy lube or quickie oil change places dont use. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
