87 Daytona E-Brake stuck

Hi. I have an 87 Shelby Z which has the rear brakes frozen up because the emergency brake cable is stuck somewhere just under the trans. There is a metal creaking groan as you push down the emergency brake pedal and the pedal never quite travels down to 'engage' or click into place.

The wheels roll but the engine is not strong enough to move it into 3rd gear or so and it is not happy at all about going backwards. I was unable to get the wheels unstuck by driving it down the block.

I am wondering if there is a pulley or something maybe the cable jumped off the track somewhere under the firewall or if the problem would be more likely to be in the brake assemblies themselves -- just looking for a little guidance before I get under there.

Thanks!

crawl under the car and follow the cable back. At some point you will find a curved-triangle shaped piece of metal with a channel in it that the cable runs through, and the adjuster is behind that. Something either in there or in the pedal is frozen up, probably by rust. My pass. side e-brake is weak from this...
