hello folks, please help.

I'm having what it seems like a big problem. my RPM's on my 2002 Jetta GL are too high. when traveling at about 80 mpr it's at about 3,700. Is this normal? if not what can it be and could it be adjusted?

My MKIII runs about 3000 RPM at 70mph, so its a little high. What is your idle rpm?

the iddle is fine at about 700. For some reason I think it might have something to do with the overdrive, since it's a GL it doesn't have an overdrive button, but it feels like it's engaged somehow, if that makes any sense?? You know on automatics when you accelerate to a certain speed the overdrive would engage and the RPM's would come down. On mine I have to let go of the gas completely in order for it to come down, and that's only just a bit that it comes down. Is there a switch internally that could de engage the overdrive?

thats normal. its just the gear ratios. dont worry about it.

80 mph for my car (1.8t) = 3,500 rpm so dont worry (3100-3600 is most fuel efficient range for 1.8t, so dont think the vw engineer's are dumb and set weird gear ratios)

yeah, my 03 jetta 1.8t is a 5 speed manual, it runs high rpms alot, especially in 5th, it doesnt matter when i shift the rpms always go the same.
