z24 TrannyTwatsonz24 12-08-2004, 08:27 AM i just bought a 97 z24, and 15 days after i bought it blew the tranny, now as far as transmissions go, whats the deal? i have heard that the stock transmissions in the z's are Getrags, is that true? because my buddy has a Getrag tranny for sale, and i was just wondering if is stock or not... Classicrocjunkie 12-08-2004, 12:53 PM to my knowledge anything 2000+ were getrag and 1999- were isuzu Twatsonz24 12-10-2004, 01:01 PM thank you very much... but...Ok, so... are the getrag trannys good? i was with my friend when he bought it, it came out of a 98 sunfire GT. My friend bought it and never used it, it just sits in his garage, he wants $400 for it. Now i know thats a steal of a price, cause i priced other used transmissions and the lowest i found was $1000 ,but im basically just wondering if a getrag would be better than an isuzu ( now that i know thats what was in my car). And as it stands right now, i DO get my car back with in a few days with a used transmission in it, but looking down the road, i have a feeling that this used transmission that is goin in my car, and, well knowing my luck, i'll blow it too.. so is a getrag out of a 98 sunfire GT for $400 worth purchasing? Classicrocjunkie 12-10-2004, 03:09 PM Yes getrag's have been known to be a bit more reliable one of the reasons why GM switched to them. But if its never been used Isuzu, i would grab that in a heart beat for 400 bucks. Twatsonz24 12-10-2004, 04:27 PM thank you very much for your input :) Twatsonz24 12-11-2004, 12:50 PM its actually been used, im not sure for how long, but it has not been used in the last year and half, but its not an izuzu its, a getrag that is for sale for $400 gixxer07man 03-03-2009, 07:15 PM yes the 1995- 1999 5speed manual is cavalier tranny is isuzu that takes syomesh transaxle fluid 2 qts. and the 2000-2002 is getrag they use atf 1.8qts. fluid in the manual i know it does sound right huh!! not sure if they are interchangable tho..:banghead: Classicrocjunkie 03-03-2009, 07:31 PM there is no need to dig up old posts from 04... thanks. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
