Better gas mileageRachelOriginal 12-07-2004, 11:52 AM How do I get better gas mileage out of my '96 Lumina, 3.1 L V? I currently get about 20 miles to the gallon. That gets really expensive when you have to travel an hour to work and back. logankelly 12-07-2004, 04:15 PM starting in 1996 models gm motors can scan a system even if the computor did not trip a code or you can guess and start replacing parts GTLumina 12-08-2004, 08:58 AM I don't know how familiar you are with this car, but I commute about 25 miles one way to work without much stop and go and I get about 26 mpg. It goes way down if I am in allot of stop and go traffic. Anyhow you may want to start with some fuel treatment and be sure your air filter is not too dirty. RachelOriginal 12-09-2004, 12:35 PM I'm not too familiar with this car. I've had her for a little over two years. I know how to tune her up, but not really work on her. I know she's got a few problems, but I'm not sure where to start. I guess the air filter would be the best place since I live in the Texas panhandle. It's really dusty here, and I travel on dirt roads a lot. Thanks for your responses. tblake 12-12-2004, 12:52 AM dang, dude, I get roughly 22 in stop and go, I'm happy. There is nothing wrong with my car. (2001 Chevy Lumina) luminator96 12-15-2004, 11:31 PM I get about 19-23 MPG .. 96 Lumina 172.000 miles .. well taken care of. Though this car is now a winter beater while my 2002 Convertible hibernates in the garage until summer.
