Okay, I posted a thread the other day, and I didn't recieve a response, so I am going to give an update, and hopefully someone will help.

We ended up getting some water out of the 1999 elantra, and it was running better, but not normal

So, we were listening to it, and realized that it was idling weird still, but sounded like a cylinder was blown. We pulled the spark wires, and the plus, and one of the wires was shorted out, and the plug was also blown, so the cylinder was misfiring, apparently.

But, guess what? Check engine light is still on, but no longer blinking

We bought the car used, and for some reason they didn't have the owners manual in it, we were told to come back for it later, and well, my husband never did.

Can SOMEONE please, if you own a 1999 elantra, look in the owners manual and see if there is a way to reset the check engine light?

PLEASE? PLEASE? :cwm27:

look in the owners manual and see if there is a way to
reset the check engine light?

I don’t have one, but I can almost guarantee that it will say something
like, “If the Check Engine light comes on, take your car immediately to
the nearest authorized Hyundai Service Center.” It won’t explain the
magic trick to turning it off. Besides, by your explanations, it really does
sound like something be funky.

Usually the owners manual tells you how to reset your check engine light. but, thanks for your help.

I could be wrong, but unless you have the necessary tools, resetting the engine code cannot be done. Any Hyundai dealership and auto service diagnosis center can reset the codes.

You may want to check out Hyundai Webtech (http://www.hmaservice.com/webtech/default.asp)online and look up your model year and look in the shop/tsb sections also.
